Adopt-a-Park

Date: 3rd Wednesday                                 Time: 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Adopt-a-Park is a great community service event where volunteers can express their gratitude towards Lincoln by picking up trash around Lincoln Park and keeping the park as a nice and clean environment for others who use the facility. Not only will volunteers learn the importance of taking care of our environment, but also develop leadership skills when working with others and getting the job finished efficiently. The hour long event is a great way to socialize with others and contribute efforts to keep Lincoln looking fresh!

 

Volunteers who participate in this event and help out will be rewarded with volunteer hours and points to redeem rewards through our point system.

General Meeting

Date: Every 2nd Tuesday                  Time: 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM

AYSC hosts a monthly general meeting on every 2nd Tuesday, from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM, inside the CCUMC. We welcome youth from ages 12 to 21, or 6th to 12th graders to join us and learn about our upcoming volunteering events. During the meeting, there will be some activities that involve interaction between members, including games, ice-breakers, and more. At the end of the meeting, there will be free food, snacks, and drinks provided.

 

 ** At every general meeting, one AYSC member will be chosen as "Member of the Month" and each will receive an appreciation award. **

Pick It Up

Littering is a huge problem in Downtown Oakland. Streets and sidewalks in the neighborhood are piled with garbages and debris. OCA-East Bay organized a "Pick-It-Up" clean up event on the second Sunday of every month, aiming to spread awareness of the devastating effects of littering and to take care of our community.

AYSC partners with OCA-East Bay to work together to improve the environment we all live in, bringing back the grassroots and the greens into our city.

Professional Development Training
AAPA Workshop

AYSC not only offers volunteering opportunities, but we also hold professional development and leadership training workshops once in a while, such as AAPA Workshop! The purpose of these workshops is to prepare our volunteers for any upcoming challenges, for example, presenting themselves during interviews or writing an essay to a college or university that they strive to be accepted. In these workshops, we aim to improve our communication skills, public speaking abilities, confidence in presenting ourselves, and persuasive techniques for every one of us to become better leaders.

Lunar New Year Street Bazaar

Oakland Chinatown hosts an annual Street Bazaar to celebrate Chinese New Year, usually in the month of January or February. It is a two-day event where people from all over the bay area come to celebrate Chinese New Year.

 

AYSC helps setup and cleanup for the Street Bazaar as well as assist other booths when needed. In exchange, AYSC gets a booth to advertise AYSC to recruit new members, have fun, and fundraise money by selling goldfishes and offering interactive games. Volunteers of AYSC can sign up for one day or both days as well as having the option to choose from different shifts. Volunteers are expected to help set up and clean up the AYSC booth, other booths, and the entirety of the Street Bazaar, bag and sell goldfishes in our booth, run the games in our booth, as well as being sent around the Street Bazaar to recruit new members to join our organization depending on the tasks assigned to the individual. In return, volunteers will be rewarded with community service hours and free lunch will be provided.
 

Wa Sung Crab Feed

The Wa Sung Community Service Club has always been great to AYSC. They offer us scholarships and other volunteering service opportunities, as well as financially supporting us. Wa Sung hosts its annual Crab Feed Event by serving crabs and selling raffle tickets to fundraise for scholarships offered to high school seniors across the Bay Area. This event happens from 3 PM - 9 PM and they need AYSC volunteers' help. We get treated to a delicious meal and have the opportunity to fundraise for AYSC by serving crabs and selling tickets.

Wa Sung Easter Pancake Breakfast

Month: April              

Location: Lincoln Recreation Center

The Wa Sung Community Service Club holds its annual Easter Pancake Breakfast at Lincoln Park in the month of April. The warm and lively event brings hundreds of people from the community of Oakland Chinatown and the Bay Area to gather for delicious sausages, pancakes, orange wedges, and beverages for breakfast.

 

Volunteers are needed for set-up, cooking pancakes and sausage, distributing food plates, serving all of this scrumptious food, facilitating lines, cleaning up trash, and selling raffles. This event will be from 6:30 PM to 2 PM. If you cannot volunteer for the entire duration of the event, two shifts are available. The first shift will be from 6:30 AM to 10 AM and the second shift will be from 9:30 AM to 2 PM. Volunteers are also given the option to pick the task he or she prefers to do, but the task assigned to the volunteer can be subjected to change depending on any needs that occur during the event. As a reward for the hard work of the volunteers, community service hour, breakfast, and lunch will be provided.

AYSC Banquet

The AACC/AYSC Banquet is an annual banquet hosted by AACC, AYSC's parent organization, where many politicians, AYSC’s sponsors, collaborators, police officers, gather together to enjoy a dinner and to celebrate memorable moments of the year. This is AYSC’s biggest fundraising event of the year where the board participates together to raise money for the club by selling raffle tickets. Scholarships will be awarded to the selected few outstanding old board members, and the new board members of AYSC will be sworn in during the banquet.

 

General members are welcomed to attend, but there are a limited number of spots. It is not first-come-first-serve. The board is given priority and active general members who sign up will have a higher chance of going. The dress code for this event is business casual/semi-formal.

July 4th CACA Luncheon

Month: July

The CACA Luncheon is an annual event hosted by Chinese American Citizens Alliance, CACA, on July 4 at Lincoln Recreation Center to celebrate the national holiday, Independence Day, by serving seniors within the community with free lunch. Volunteers are needed to set up for the event, pack lunch boxes, serve food to senior citizens, and clean up for the event. This is a great way to give back to the community and thank those that gave us freedom and safety.

 

In addition to community service hours, each hard-working volunteer will be rewarded with a free t-shirt and free food, sponsored by CACA.

Walter Yin and Mildred L. Chinn Picnic

The Walter Yin  and Mildred L. Chinn Picnic, also known as the AYSC Picnic, is an annual picnic hosted by AYSC to honor our late co-founder Walter & his wife Mildred. It is also to thank our sponsors, members, advisors, and community for supporting and being a part of the Asian Youth Services Committee (AYSC). Free food, games, and entertainment are provided.

 

Everyone is welcomed to attend this event, including youths who are not a part of AYSC. It is a great opportunity to bring your friends & family to have a blast with AYSC. If you are interested in attending the picnic, you must RSVP on the google form. In addition, waivers are required for all participants, signed and submitted at the picnic. Transportation from the CCUMC (321 8th St, Oakland, CA 94607) to the picnic area is provided for anyone that needs a ride. Also, we are in need of volunteers for this picnic. You will help us set up and clean up at the picnic while enjoying your great time.

Pal Camp

Month: July            

Location: Oakland Hills

AYSC hosts PAL CAMP annually. It is a 4 days and 3 nights camping adventure. It is a great opportunity where board members, general members, advisors, and * of AYSC could bond with each other through thrilling and interactive activities, such as water balloon fights, sports competitions, night hiking in the wilderness, BBQ around a campfire, role-playing in "Mafia", swimming in the pool, karaoke singing in the cabins, watermelon eating challenges, and the list goes on!

 

Transportation is offered to and back from the church by *. The camp is supervised by many cadets from the *, as well as AYSC adult advisors. If interested, please sign up through our Google form, but keep in mind that this is not a first-come-first-serve event. AYSC will select participants based on dedication and activeness throughout other volunteering events. Take a break from everyday tasks and join us to experience nature.

Safety Fair

Oakland Safety Fair is held annually in the month of October at Lincoln Recreation Center. It is where different organizations, including the Oakland Fire Department, Asian Health Services and etc come to teach the community how to live a healthy and safe life via presentations and booths. Volunteers are needed to help set up, serve lunch, translating, and clean up. Waivers are required! It will be educational and a great opportunity for you to earn some community service hours.

Season's Greetings! Merry Christmas! Wrap It Up is hosted annually at Oakland Asian Cultural Center by the Oakland Fire Department. It is where volunteers come together to wrap Christmas gifts for children and get into the holiday spirit. Gifts are part of the holiday joy. If you love to wrap gifts, volunteer for this fun way to celebrate the holiday season!
